Thread regarding Advance Auto Parts Inc. layoffs

Culture of Failure

There are many things that make a company great. Likewise, there are others which dictate imminent failure. Some examples that will lead to the death of Advance Auto Parts are;

*Failure to sincerely recognize people. You are just a number at AAP.

*No internal respect for leadership. Who wants to follow a soda and chip guy moonlighting in the auto parts business? CSMs and DMs lack respect as well.

*Capped compensation for CAMs. Bonus is not the same as a commission. People who can truly sell demand compensation commensurate with their ability.

*Turnover has a cost. It will never improve until a solid field management alignment is in place.

  • Inventory management is sloppy at best. Accountability for losses is horrible.

*Product offering lacks quality in many areas. Try to figure out what brand is in a filter box.

Feel free to add to the list.....

All this talk about theft or as they like to call it "shrink" is hilarious, as it still allows the company a deduction whether it stolen, or never received, so what does the big picture really say.

Back when we still had loss prevention people, we had team members that would quit as soon as they caught wind of our store being investigated. Always when the LP guy showed up. I wonder how much we have actually lost in both cash and parts?

many stay at advance because it’s soeasy to supplement pay with hot auto parts. Some are probably making $50/hr !,,

Theft? The pc term is shrink. I wonder how much product is billed by the DC but never makes the trip to the store? Flunkies in flunkies out!

With the virtual elimination of loss prevention, the real thieves are well aware of this and are doubling up their efforts since no one is watching. As a former DM from the CQ side, it is unbelievable the losses at every physical store inventory. What’s worse is no one cares and simply accepts the losses regardless of the amount. At CQ, store GMs worked all year to insure positive results at inventory.

Two things to add, just confirmed that advance has cut n lost most of there lost prevention staff, one person to cover most of the country. Been expressing and reporting, documenting a employee going through our commercial account history, finding cash sales and every shift doing fake cash sale returns. Started to notice around thanksgiving, who knows exactly how long and it's increasing every shift thief works. Told they are on the case but backloaded. Past two years been dealing with huge employee theft, n a ton of lost items front store. Each yearly review same standard excuse, yes you did your job above and beyond but sadly do to the huge losses sorry no raise for team members in your store. Looks as if again this years review and results shall again be same. Told this case of theft is on list and the company shall get our sticky fingered employee removed soon as possible, so continues to pocket more each day, again rest us go another year without even a small raise.

Dealing with advances refusal to do even a basic background check,, one of our area stores just had there GM escorted out store by police in hand cuffs seems he was a fan of kitty p--n, a basic free court record public search would have shown this was coming a list long as your arm the GM had of child p--n convictions. I. Strongly suggest every single advance employee do a free easy criminal search of your fellow employees because advance refuses to do anything to protect any employee. It's scary and sad to think with all the hours cut to minimum we could unknowingly be put in an unsafe work environment. Locked inside at closing alone with imagine fill in blank type criminal coworker.

Thief is bad at Advance but another issue lurks unknown to many. When background checks were dropped as part of the hiring process, we welcomed convicted s-xual predators, many on local s-x offender registries. Check your local list and you may be surprised. The store group I work on had two team members arrested while working for offenses to children.

Agree with everything said, and was about to add something about our employees stealing the company blind, I have gone to my gm many times about witnessed theft, same answer every time. Thanks for your input. Gm more worried about having to cover the thieves shifts themselves then doing there job to protect the company property. Looks like more cuts are coming expect every time I show up to start my shift to be my last day or those left need do much more to cover for more cuts. Advance is dying a slow death just hanging out waiting for my pink slip, kicking back relaxing collecting an unemployment check sounds like a plan for me so close to retirement. This companies crap n lack of treatment n respect has worn me out. I started highly motivated looking forward to move up quickly, figured out fast upper management has no clue to turn things around.

Theft is bad, particularly on the closing schedule. Worst thing is my GM is aware of it and could care less.

Worst RVP lineup ever. All yes men.

by | Post ID:

They do not care about people its all the dollar. R.V.P B.L was terrible!

Now they have many more of the same, I'm out of here.

by | Post ID:

Well stated post. I would add that as a former auditor for AAP, I have never seen a company with such severe internal theft.

by | Post ID:

This company fails on so many levels it would be a text book example of how not to run a company, biggest problem being those that are in charge can not, and will not change what is going wrong till their pay checks stop coming in and they have no one else to blame.
