Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Sears Holdings Kmart is like a boat anchor.....or it may be the other way around.....I bought one item at Kmart, it was a mini refrigerator.

I was one of maybe 5 customers in the store. (Saturday Afternoon) It took 17 minutes to check out. Cash registered looked like my old Commodore Vic 20 from the 80's. Cashier could not get the door to open, had to get help. Visa machine would not take card. I reverted to cash. Way before I studied why checkout procedure serves only one purpose......holds up the line, its been that way I have gone into Kmart, which not often. SHLD is a great Short, Bankruptcy is eminent this year, IMO. Its a shame, but real.

As of the last few years we have been offering it on furniture and patio furniture as well. Every year Kmart seems to expand what is smart plan eligible. I remember one year we had a guy special order 200 bikes for kids at Christmas. The sale was well over 15,000 and all the manager could talk about was the fact that it was going to mess up our smart plan metrics because he obviously didn't want to buy 200 smart plans for bikes he was giving away. Screw the fact that we were ringing up 15,000 in bikes in one day of that this guy was doing something amazing for kids, so pathetic

Nope. I've worked at Kmart for over a decade across multiple stores. We have always sold smart plans on purses, luggage and backpacks because of the zipper. It's an it ridiculous and somewhat embaranto offer to the customer.

I think I will take out a smart plan on the gum I will buy tomorrow. I will chew it and take it back to say that all the flavor has gone out of it and I want a new pack or to fix the chewed gum. Sounds like a genius plan to me!!

I am sorry but you did make me chuckle a bit. I am going to ask my counter parts about that as that seems rather ridiculous. I bet it is an innocent set up mistake in the system

Try selling a smart plan on a purse or luggage. It's kind of embarrassing trying to explain a replacement plan on a purse (which Kmart offers and cashiers are required to ask!)

" the pattern just continues the same way up the chain. "

When that's the management style of the VERY TOP echelon as the saying goes "schitt flows downhill"

Yup. The associates are required to ask for all those things. Each thing is part of their metrics. The managers keep a close eye on their numbers and they get grilled if they don't meet the requirements. Of course, the managers have to do it to the associates because their district managers do the exact same thing to them if the store isn't meeting the goals as a whole. I would think that the pattern just continues the same way up the chain.

i think the associates have to offer a warranty or protection plan on just about everything but you are right no sense to buy one on something like that. I think they are just trying to get each stores expenses down to a % of their sales.

At least you had a cashier. Can never find them in a sears store...

Did you get the Purchase Agreement on the mini-fridge? It is a great deal. For just 49.99 for a year of coverage you can have the piece of mind knowing that if your $50 fridge breaks you can spend countless hours of frustration on the phone and many days waiting for a repair person to get it fixed. Good deal.

Hows the mini-frige?
