Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

401k => CVX Stocks

I was wondering if anyone has their 401k invested in CVX, and how do you feel about it? Would you dump it at this point? Keep it, knowing the shizzle is only going to get worse and the stock will be dropping even more?

I missed the exit, so it looks like I'm in for the long haul. Hope I have enough gas...

I am 100% in. Advised others to exit at the peak. But, I am so underpaid (yes, by Chevron) that I live off the dividends and had little choice except to hold on. I rationalize this tail wagging the dog situation by looking only at the dividend rate. Hard to match anywhere. Chevron will not reverse its priority on dividends until things get a lot worse. We have enough in downstream contribution that we will weather this longer than a lot of upstream weighted companies. Too many large companies, and even COUNTRIES, have their survival at stake for this crude price depression to last past 2016. Even if the US had to price-fix at the retail level, something will happen to preserve the industry.

I know more than s few folks that sold their Chevron stock coming off the $135 peak just over a year ago. I am one who sold it all and put half into the S&P 500 and half into Prime Money Market. If you didn't keep your eye on your investments or believed blindly the stock would keep going higher, that's your problem.

I love how so many people sold at the peak.

I would like to see your sell sheet, it's like that 2 foot large mouth bass (which was a record setter) i caught. It was huge but I forgot to take a picture and I only fish catch and release. But trust me I would never lead you astray

You know you are a Chevron lifer if you believe ROMs every other year are SOP.

I've never been real smart, so I held on to my CVX stock. Bummer!

And I'm disinclined to sell it now...preferring to keep my losses (only) on paper while I swim in dividends!

But here's the Good News: Safeway is hiring baggers and they FAVOR retired Chevroids ('cuz they've ALREADY been dumbed down...no need to train 'em).

Better'n The Best! OE is ME! Committed To Always! Yippee!

I sold mine at 131.29 in last July

I sold all last year between 120 and 130 and have to admit I'm glad I did. I was a little worried that I was overreacting but what I was seeing that work was scaring the hell out of me. I just couldn't how we were going to carry this off even with oil and 80 bucks and barrel.

I sold all last year at $120-130 a share. Today it's $83. Predictions are for below $60 by Christmas. A loss isn't loss until you sell. It depends on what price you bought the shares and your patience. If it hits $50 a share and you bought at $100 how many years will it take to recover... not mention make a profit. Your call. I have no skin in this game. I may though buy again right before Summer 2016 to catch the turnaround; if one is possible.

In my opinion, the 2 previous posters are correct. Don't sell in a panic. I for one got completely out of Chevron stock about a year ago, after it started coming off its $135 high. Call me lucky or well attuned, as I'm always plugged into the oil and gas news. Anyway, if you have been holding CVX for a long time, surely you have seen a decline. My advise is stay the course. You still own the shares, and later it will go back up. Meanwhile, you will be offsetting the loss with handsome dividends. If you cash in your stock, you will surely book the loss. Investing into the market is also a risk, as a correction is long overdue.

What do people think about dividend? Will they be forced to cut it?

by | Post ID:

I wish I would've last year. I don't have much. Just going to ride it out at this point. I have a long term horizon. Talk to your financial advisor

Don't sell low. If you can wait for 2 to 3 years, it should be back on the growth path.
