Thread regarding Syntel Inc. layoffs

Syntel Layoff might start from end of May 2015

One of syntel's existing employee informed informally that, Syntel has around 75 resources in onsite bench and they plan to cut off more onsite positions soon. Likely that onsite employees coming to bench will be sent to offshore and get sacked as soon as possible. 2nd list for layoff is already prepared and get ready for execution which is expected to start from end of this month. One more news heard that, Syntel is waiting for H1B petition approval list, Which is expected to come before end of this month. Whoever have applied and not got H1B may be in the list. Voluntary Attrition is around 20% already, now Involuntary attrition is adding petrol to fire, Hope whoever got updated on this information will not join the company in future. Employees already started talking about Syntel take over by an IT giant. If that happens too atleast things will settle down.

Shubhra Singh is a insane HR. She has no moral. I don't believe she is from IIT. If people from IIT are like this I am proud I am not amongst them.

Shubhra Singh Resign on Priority. You deserve to sit at home. You add no value to syntel and yourself. Take Chitra Iyer with you as well. She is just a horrible women.

VPs are not bringing business or not capable of retaining business. All the VPs are keep on promoting their own right hand left hand, even though they are not capable or having merit move to next upper level. This is to safe guard themselves from talented competition. How and why it is happening without bringing business. Few vertical has multiple VPs,even they don't know why they are there and what they suppose to do. The promotions are lineage of their own pet dogs at any level. Client Partners (CP) dashboard can be made public to see the business brought in and in pipeline. Even in HR function they are having multiple VPs, what is the need of it in this critical time. Why we need a Recruitment Head at VP and senior DD level, when the company is laying off people. Lot of recruitment team are contract employees. What is the need of them. What is the proportionate reduction in HR Count when delivery teams are laid off. why we need HR function, when they are downing the employee morale by throwing the employees through security guards and forcing to leave them within 30 minutes withoout any proper and prior notice. There may be 350 DDs and around 1000 DMs. If each DM bring 5 million business, each DD bring 50 million business and each VP bring 500 million business, then the company can grow. Otherwise 35 year old company will collapse in next 35 months. The company is talking about Synergy as a value, but there is no synergy between CEO Nitin Rakesh and COO Rakesh Khanna. They are fighting with each other publicly like street dogs, first throw them out rather than innocent employees at low level. Prasant Ranade role is to analysis and give detail to report to owner.

The major problem here for employees who lost their jobs on the grounds of cost have to struggle a lot justifying the reason for not working.

Indian HR system is not so adaptable to this change in IT industry. There are even HR who try to take candidate situation advantage by offering them jobs with less salary compared to what they were earning recently.

I strictly condemn Syntel this move. They didn't even compensated legally to the employees. Believe or not syntel management is criminal minded and they should be challenged by external forces like government or trade unions.

No one expects firms to hold on to a large headcount when their business is shrinking and major account are being lost to overly aggressive competition.

Instead of moving into bankruptcy situation by holding people they don't need, it is wise to let them go and keep the firm financially sound to take advantage of future opportunities.

As such this company was known to call back people fired from bench if there is major gain in business and projects. In the past even chronic non performers were politely asked to resign in the system.

However this time around things seems to have been mishandled to extent the employee-management relationship got a battering and work environment vitiated, leading to a lot mistrust between lower level employees and managers, this indicates a possible conflict among upper middle and higher management groups.

Situation seems to have been misused by the middle management (sr PM, DM and DD's) to settle personal scores and sabotage careers of potential challengers within company. (Like insurance vertical recommending firing of people who joined their vertical in the last 2 years from other vertical like retail, lLogistics, retails and banking, while retaining their own folk who may be chronic non performer working delivery admin roles for ages)

layoff are painful to handle both for company and employee. Considering the typical mentality of other IT companies in india, of not willing to hire people who are not currently working, laid off people are often insulted and rejected without proper evaluation and exploited even when hired.

On the contrary in USA this process is not painful as hiring of fired people is not a taboo as in India. In USA failure and failing is accepted a normal thing.

Time is better spent learning new things than wasting time running around unions.

Choose your employer and career path (IT or non IT) carefully next time.

Does syntel has the capability to judge someone's performance ?

As far as leadership is concerned. syntel is a consistent underperformed since its inception.

in other words, they are cheap thugs existing in divine IT industry and should immediately shut down its IT operations.

sorry head count will go to 15000

If any IT company wants to take over Syntel.. They will not tell to lay off the employees to that extant i.e more that 5000 from the head count 24000+, what Syntel did and going to do..Yes there will be layoff only who didnt perform well.. Syntel is a leader of itself..they do not want to give the company to any other IT company instead of that they will do layoff more 4000 employees.. so the head count will go to 19000
