Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Intel's 2015 Layoff Selection Criteria

By word-of-mouth from an HR insider. Apologies if I mess up the terminology.

If you are a US-employee and both of these apply to you:

  1. IR or SSL4/5 in 2015 focal.

  2. IR or BE or SSL4/5 in 2012/2013/2014 focal.

Then your last day will be July 15 and you are never eligible for rehire.

Terminology Decoder:

IR = improvement required

BE = below expectations (no longer used)

SSL = stock share level (there are 5 levels: 1 is best, 5 is worst)

focal = Intel's performance review process

Does anyone see the real layoff letter from HR?

by | Post ID:

Hi, its me the troll who posts 1/2 of the anonymous comments on this site. Today I decided to go back on my meds. So at least for today I'll try not to kick people while they're down. No promises about tomorrow. :)

by | Post ID:

sorry?

by | Post ID:

Are these responses coming from the same person :)

by | Post ID:

The point is: don't ever get too comfortable at Intel. They can cut you at any time.

by | Post ID:

Sorry?

by | Post ID:

Thatz wierd, I was told first year having worked for only a few months (I joined in May but got to join the project only in sept 2012) this is what you get (SSL4). Is this not taken into account?

by | Post ID:

Yes, you may be screwed in future cuts.

by | Post ID:

What if I have ssl4 in 2013 (first, year at Intel) and ssl3 in 2014 and 2015? Could that still be a problem?

by | Post ID:

Bwahahahahahaha

by | Post ID:

Is anyone having their lawyer look into this??? Perhaps we all should get the same lawyer... (class action)

by | Post ID:

Now that work environment sounds similar to Motorola prior to the spin off. Such a sense of entitlement!

by | Post ID:

100% true

by | Post ID:

I work with many Intel employees of over 20+ years service. Sadly, they are mostly overpaid, are deadwood, and tend to complain the most about their pay and many other work related issues. They somehow think that Intel "owes" them for these years of loyalty, as if we are all government employees.

by | Post ID:

Regardless of the real meaning of recall/rehire, why would any Intel employee affected ever want to work for Intel again?

by | Post ID:

Actually not true! They are not allowing employees affected by this to EVER be rehired. Doesn't matter if you come in to a different group, different job roll etc. HR confirmed this "special clause" for this action. So yeah, it states "recall" but their true meaning is "never again" will you be employed by Intel. I'm not even sure if that is legal.

by | Post ID:

So true 689

by | Post ID:

At least we know for sure there are typical Intel employee's posting here, the lack of comprehension of the difference between the words "Recall" and "Rehire" guarantee's it.

by | Post ID:

Hmmm, they didn't bother to add the part about never eligible for rehire last year. However, the year seems to have proved that it should have been said. The "legal" way to age discriminate is called "retirement" at Intel. Some of the $$ put in place when one is "bought out" (retired due to "performance reasons), seem to make it legit, but underneath, it is still really "shedding" the senior-most employees because they're the most expensive in both wage and healthcare.

by | Post ID:

Yep. Successful + SSL4/5 = old BE (Below Expectation) Focal Rating

by | Post ID:

What does "successful" in performance review and stock level 4 means in Intel? - "Successful but not successful" ????

by | Post ID:

just read what the notification letter looks like in an oregon newspaper online.. do your google search: Intel Layoffs 2015

by | Post ID:

Intel now publishes market pay ranges for every pay grade. Those on the high end of the pay range gets screwed since managers use it as justification for not giving you much of a raise regardless of your performance during the past year.

by | Post ID:

During at least some of these years, stock options were not performance related but always explained as way to tie you to company long term. For older employees who might not see the stock options come due, it did not make sense to give them large grants, but instead give higher raises. This seems to be re-writing history to eliminate older employees in addition to poorer performers.

Got whacked Friday.

slash and burn slash and burn

by | Post ID:

The house cleaning starts in a few hours.

Enjoy food stamps

by | Post ID:

By this time tomorrow you'll be eating rice and beans flooding the Internet with your no longer in demand "skillset" lol

by | Post ID:

Another sneaky Intel technique to get rid of folks is through the mid-year IR, given with no chance of overturning this rating. This makes it easier for managers to cut those people right after the year-end focal review.

by | Post ID:

SSSL4 is the new BE, so if you get S SSL4 next focal make sure you dispute it or you will be next out the door

by | Post ID:

what is crazy is they tell people your fired for being a poor performer, we will never hire you again.. oh and BTW stick around for 30 days with full access to all Intel buildings and computer access. Seriously.. they are not walked out the door badge removed?

by | Post ID:

Nobody in Hillsboro likes you people anyway. This layoff has entertainment value for the masses.

BTW, your tax break should be revoked.

by | Post ID:

Blimy

by | Post ID:

Additional security will be available to escort you out if you fail to cooperate with the terms of your termination.

by | Post ID:

If you could what are the definitions of the diff ssl (stock share level) numbers?

by | Post ID:

A "Successful" Focal rating may not really mean that you were successful in your role at Intel.

by | Post ID:

Without putting too fine a point on the letter they are saying please get out you are not wanted here. Simple.

by | Post ID:

The letter reads, "Not eligible for recall", not rehire. ie: Its not like a union where they lay people off with the possibility they can be recalled, without going through the hiring process again.

by | Post ID:

Monday is the day

by | Post ID:

Did you receive the letter?
